White Elephants and Man Rooms

So how is everyone today? It's mid-December and the Holiday season is in full swing. We finally got our tree this weekend and LN and I decorated it yesterday. When I say decorated I mean, I asked her where she wanted the ornaments to go, she pointed to the same spot every time and after she turned her back I moved it. I really didn't want all the ornaments in one small clump in the corner.

Last night the lovely ladies and I had a Cookie Exchange/White Elephant Gift Exchange party. It was as awesome as it was last year! I got a great sign that reads:

"Put On Your Big Girl Panties and Deal With It"

It's teal with black letters and I hung it up in the 'Man Room'.

The 'Man Room' you say? Well when we moved into our house two years ago yesterday the Mr. was getting all pouty because I was calling all of the decorating 'shots'. We have a small room at the foot of the stairs that was claimed to be a bedroom, but really is more of a study. So the Mr. claimed that room as his own. Thus, the 'Man Room' was born. Why the use of quotes you ask? Well, because after awhile I got fed up with not having a place to set up my crafty/sewing stuff and took over a part of the room. So really, it's not a Man Room, it's a study, throw your junk in when company is coming over, sometimes spare bedroom room. We still call it the Man Room though, it makes the Mr. feel good.

  1. Ha! Brian wants a "Man Cave" area in the basement (TV area for just him) and I told him that if he wants it, he needs to add onto the house (and even then, I am doubting he gets it). ;)

  4. @Amy, I didn't glue it down, it can easily be moved!

The Mr. was trying to justify why it was ok to have it in his room by saying that if you aren't 'Man' enough to be in there then at least put on your big girl panties. Whatever Mr. Nice try!

Confession #1

I don't fold and put away my clothes. Really, you'd think by the time I graduated from college, got married, bought a house and had a kid that I would be able to take care of myself. But no, there are still a number of things that I can't seem to get the hang of. Like laundry. Well, that's not true. I actually don't mind doing laundry. Washing and drying clothes is no big deal. (Let's not point out that a machine takes care all of it...shall we?) Even un-organized me has a day that I do laundry. Monday. Now granted, it is Tuesday and the first load went in about twenty minutes ago, but hey, I did bring it downstairs yesterday! The washing machine does it's job, the dryer theirs. So the laundry is done, it's been brought upstairs and I pile it on the bed in a overly idealistic display of domesticity; where it sits all day until the guy goes to bed and pushes it onto the floor. Now, if it's started out to be a good day, the pile will end up o

A Giveaway, A Giveaway!

Well fellow inter-friends, I was going to post today about my experience with the Wii Fit. However, upon looking at my post number I realized that today was post #95. Which means that I get to announce the nifty little giveaway I have planned for post #100. Giveaway you say? Oh yes, just keep reading folks. I'm not going to get too introspective and sentimental today. After all, I have to leave myself something to write for the hundredth post. I'm excited that I made it this far. When I started out I really, really hoped that I'd actually write in this space and feel motivated enough to keep writing here. And I do! I like having something to do everyday that is for me, and really (sorry to disappoint you) only me. We can discuss this at more length next week, when I've actually made it to one hundred. So, the details. I want to know more about who you are. Yes, you! The people that come and read my stuff everyday. Or every week. Heck, if you're just pa

Five Things Friday- Summer Drinks

Hello good peeps!  It's currently 79 degrees in sunny Minneapolis and I think it's high time I shared my favorite summer drinks with you.  Whether you are chilling on a patio, sipping around a campfire or simply sitting in front of your A/C, here are five tasty, cool, refreshing drinks for your  pleasure.  What about you?  What do you imbibe in the summer? Moscow Mule :  I had this for the first time at the beginning of summer and it is just about perfect.  Ginger beer (not ginger ale), vodka and lime come together to form the most refreshing drink you can have on a patio.  Sweet, spicy, with a nice little kick. Surly's Cynic Ale :  A light colored ale with a nice kick at the end.  I could drink pints and pints of this brew.  It's the ideal beer for a back yard BBQ. Arnold Palmer :  Part tart lemonade, part sweet iced tea.  Love this combination in the summer time, especially in the afternoons!  Nothing like a little caffeine kick to get you through the rest of a
