Vampire Love

So I guess I will come clean and fully admit to my vampire addiction. I read all four of the Twilight novels (and Midnight Sun, Twilight from Edward's point of view) in five days. My dear friend and I are headed to the midnight showing of New Moon. The Mr. and I just started watching HBO's 'True Blood'. I'll out him too...he's just as into it as I am. I have the theme song running through my head and I can't wait for the next disc to arrive from Netflix. The Mr. thinks it's because I'm part Romanian and have family that lived in Transylvania. He even tells a story about how my uncle So and So was turned into a vampire. Or was it he was Dracula? I can't remember, the story is always evolving. Then last night while we were watching 'True Blood' it occurred to me that if the Mr. was sleeping all night then LN and I would be left unprotected (From what? Details.) When I mentioned this to the Mr. he totally saw where I was going. So he told me I could get a vampire boyfriend; just so that we would be protected twenty-four hours a day. Pretty smart on my part, no?

I don't think I'm the only one with a new found love of vampires. The recent boom of vampire books, TV shows and movies (have you seen the trailer for the new Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant? Looks lame.) has to have a reason. I mean, seriously? I get that vampires are hot, they are either bad boys or real gentlemen and both of them are pure danger. There has to be some other reason why people (women especially) feel so drawn to vampires.

So I was thinking this morning (as it turns out, while I was folding laundry, snap!) about this very situation. The connection between women/vampires and all. I was trying to form some sort of theory. Finally it kind of hit me. Women (generally, not always) want to be needed. Moms want to be needed by their kids, wives by their husbands. Isn't there a stereotype that all women want to change their men so that they are solely dependent on the women for their survival? Well, how much more needed could you be if you were needed for someone's sustenance? People talk about the bond that forms between parent and child; the child is dependent on the parent for everything, including food. How much pull do you think two adults would have if one of them was dependent on the other for food? Interesting question. To be needed for the very life force of another being; well, that's kind of sexy. The whole can't be around during the day? That works too. The woman gets a ton of time to herself to do what she wants and then as soon as the sun goes down she has her man. Sweet set-up really. Even the spots where vampires bite are good for the ladies. The neck? The femoral artery? (The artery closest to your, ahem, lady part) Two of a female's more erogenous parts. Women were at the losing part of the bargain since the get go. Not that they seem to mind.

So, what do we have? We throw together lots of hot vampire sex, danger, a beguiling virgin and you've got yourself the makings of a multi-million dollar industry. And at least one loyal fan, me.

Vampires.
Love them or hate them?

  1. Love it! I'm addicted to True Blood too! I've been hooked on vampires since I was 15 and started reading Anne Rice! I can't get enough, I've read most of her books, the Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson, and am getting the Sookie Stockheart series True Blood is based on from the library. I can't get enough. My man also teases me about it :) Great theory, I really like it!

Confession #1

I don't fold and put away my clothes. Really, you'd think by the time I graduated from college, got married, bought a house and had a kid that I would be able to take care of myself. But no, there are still a number of things that I can't seem to get the hang of. Like laundry. Well, that's not true. I actually don't mind doing laundry. Washing and drying clothes is no big deal. (Let's not point out that a machine takes care all of it...shall we?) Even un-organized me has a day that I do laundry. Monday. Now granted, it is Tuesday and the first load went in about twenty minutes ago, but hey, I did bring it downstairs yesterday! The washing machine does it's job, the dryer theirs. So the laundry is done, it's been brought upstairs and I pile it on the bed in a overly idealistic display of domesticity; where it sits all day until the guy goes to bed and pushes it onto the floor. Now, if it's started out to be a good day, the pile will end up o

A Giveaway, A Giveaway!

Well fellow inter-friends, I was going to post today about my experience with the Wii Fit. However, upon looking at my post number I realized that today was post #95. Which means that I get to announce the nifty little giveaway I have planned for post #100. Giveaway you say? Oh yes, just keep reading folks. I'm not going to get too introspective and sentimental today. After all, I have to leave myself something to write for the hundredth post. I'm excited that I made it this far. When I started out I really, really hoped that I'd actually write in this space and feel motivated enough to keep writing here. And I do! I like having something to do everyday that is for me, and really (sorry to disappoint you) only me. We can discuss this at more length next week, when I've actually made it to one hundred. So, the details. I want to know more about who you are. Yes, you! The people that come and read my stuff everyday. Or every week. Heck, if you're just pa

Five Things Friday- Summer Drinks

Hello good peeps!  It's currently 79 degrees in sunny Minneapolis and I think it's high time I shared my favorite summer drinks with you.  Whether you are chilling on a patio, sipping around a campfire or simply sitting in front of your A/C, here are five tasty, cool, refreshing drinks for your  pleasure.  What about you?  What do you imbibe in the summer? Moscow Mule :  I had this for the first time at the beginning of summer and it is just about perfect.  Ginger beer (not ginger ale), vodka and lime come together to form the most refreshing drink you can have on a patio.  Sweet, spicy, with a nice little kick. Surly's Cynic Ale :  A light colored ale with a nice kick at the end.  I could drink pints and pints of this brew.  It's the ideal beer for a back yard BBQ. Arnold Palmer :  Part tart lemonade, part sweet iced tea.  Love this combination in the summer time, especially in the afternoons!  Nothing like a little caffeine kick to get you through the rest of a
